The far left of the screen in the middle is my blue storm spotter dot thru the Skywarn Network. The towering cumulus (Top Picture) that I was watching is the orange dot with a black dot inside of it on the east side of Black Mountain (middle of screen of the bottom picture, which is a screenshot from my RadarOmega app on my phone). I was sitting in the Ingles parking lot to view this cloud better.
The rainstorm fell apart as a local landscaper stopped by after noticing my truck that has a weather station mounted to its roof. I told him I was a storm chaser and a student in the atmospheric science program here at UNCA. As a landscaper he was interested on how to attain a weather station like mine, so he had a better idea, if it was going to rain or not on his job sites vs the weather service. He also asked if tornadoes form in the mountains and I told him yes, that tornadoes can drop anywhere including the mountains. Before he had to leave, I found out he was from the NE Ohio area, not far from where I was born and raised. He said he would be watching for my truck and hope we can get together to talk more here in the near future.
