Black bear at apartment complex.

 No Photo on this post. I know that I'm in the mountains and this can happen. At midnight, in walking back from getting a quick smoke out at the road as I was walking back to my apartment, I saw a full-grown black bear come slowing walking towards the apartment office into the light. One of the few times not having my phone with me, so no photo and with the black bear only 50 feet from me, my safety has higher priority. At night, the only thing I carry is a mini flashlight. I would have the phone on me, if there was something weatherwise going on, but just another calm night. It stopped when it saw me coming, I said "Yogi just keep moving away from me". Then it just wandered off into the darkness beside the pool area. I reckon I'm going to have to start wearing my survival knife when I go out at night now. 

I have seen the power these guys can do. I used to go to Canada fishing every year with my family, growing up. Up there, you are ALWAYS on rattlesnake and bear watch. My dad's friend had a bear rip the door off his cabin, then ripped the door off the refrigerator. I thought being in NC was pretty safe until tonight. I'll chase a tornado any day of the week and be up and personal with it, (first chase 500 feet from EF0) and won't think twice about it, but a bear not in any kind of cage totally different story.  Heck, I'm still shaking as I type this post.
